What is the difference between Reno mattresses and welded gabion mesh?
2026-01-28
Reno mattresses, also known as gabion mattresses or gabion mats, are mat-shaped engineering components whose thickness is much smaller than their length and width, defined by machine-woven twisted-pair hexagonal mesh. So, what are the differences between Reno mattresses and welded gabion mesh? Let's find out together!
Reno mattresses are cage-like structures with a thickness of 0.17-0.3 meters, filled with stones on site. They are mainly used for riverbank, bank, and roadbed slope protection. They can prevent banks from being eroded and damaged by ocean currents and waves, and also allow for natural convection exchange between water and soil under the slope, achieving ecological balance. Vegetation on the slope can enhance the landscape.
The difference between Reno mattresses and welded gabion mesh lies in the fact that welded gabions are made by welding iron wire into mesh panels using welding equipment, and then galvanizing the surface of the mesh panels. Galvanized welded wire mesh has a certain degree of corrosion resistance, but the galvanizing process is generally hot-dip galvanizing, which has good corrosion resistance but a slightly reduced service life. Then, numerous wire mesh panels are assembled into wire mesh cages, filled with stones, and used in river flood control, embankment reinforcement, and slope protection projects. Its applications are quite wide, and it has been widely welcomed by users. However, this product is relatively expensive, more so than ordinary products, making it unsuitable for large-scale use. Nevertheless, its overall integrity is excellent.
Main Features of Reno Mattresses:
1) Strong Adaptability: Galvanized Reno mattresses use steel wire mesh cages as the main body, possessing a flexible structure that can adapt to various soil properties and integrate well with them. They can effectively adapt to foundation deformation without weakening the overall structure and are less prone to breakage.
2) High Permeability: Galvanized Reno mattresses allow groundwater and seepage water to seep out promptly through the gaps in the structural stones, effectively mitigating the impact of pore water pressure and contributing to slope stability.
3) Strong Structural Integrity: Even if one or two wires break, the mesh of a galvanized Reno mattress will not loosen. It possesses ductility that other materials cannot replace, allowing for large-area assembly without seams and strong overall integrity.
4) Convenient construction and easy assembly: Semi-finished products can be manufactured in the factory according to design specifications and assembled into various shapes on-site.
5) Good durability: The wire mesh undergoes double anti-corrosion treatment, exhibiting strong oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and aging resistance, resulting in a long service life.
6) Beautifies the environment and maintains ecological balance.
Advantages of Welded Gabion Mesh
1. Welded gabion mesh has a smooth and neat surface, uniform mesh size, and strong welds, possessing strong strength, corrosion resistance, permeability, and integrity.
2. Welded gabion mesh is inexpensive and easy to install, making it an ideal choice for courtyard decoration and slope protection.
3. It has a strong ability to resist natural damage and harsh weather conditions.
4. Excellent tensile strength.
5. Welded gabion mesh is simple, quick, and convenient to install on-site, with an aesthetically pleasing structure, saving time and labor, and increasing work efficiency.
6. Welded gabion mesh installation time is 40% shorter than that of hexagonal gabion mesh. Compared to gabion mesh, welded gabion mesh can better maintain its "cage shape": when filled, the welded gabion mesh panel is neither convex nor concave, maintaining a flat surface, unlike hexagonal gabion mesh which bulges out. This allows for better connection with other gabion meshes or to form a unified whole with the wall.
